Valley Forge National Historical Park
Exploring Valley Forge National Historical Park | King of Prussia, PA | April 2023
Curtis’ final assignment for the spring outage season was located about an hour West of Philadelphia. When looking at the area, we noticed that Valley Forge wasn’t too far, so we picked out a hotel near the national park site so that we would be able to go for our daily walks here. Usually when we visit national historic sites, we only have a couple of hours to stop and walk around, so we were excited to be able to really get to know this park well during our two weeks in the area.
Fortunately, the park is large and has many miles of trails, so each day we picked out a trailhead, drove there, and walked a new trail. Throughout our weeks here, we walked through Washington’s Headquarters, to and around the National Memorial Arch, over the Schuylkill River, and up both Mount Misery and Mount Joy, just to name some of the highlights. During the first week, Curtis was working days, but would be back by 3 so we could go for a late afternoon walk. He switched to the night shift during the second week, but we still managed to get out for short walks in the late afternoon between him waking and having to leave for work.
Like our time in Ottawa and Oswego, we quickly created new routines and found new favorite places to go which we enjoyed during our short stay in King of Prussia. Visiting Valley Forge every day, then visiting the same strip mall to grab dinner each night became a routine we enjoyed every day. Some of the restaurants we enjoyed the most were Hakata for ramen and sushi, Kabab Cafe for gyros, and MOD Pizza. We feel like we were able to get to know the area, at least the park, very well during our time here, but like the other cities, we wouldn’t mind coming back someday!
